Nintendo of Europe has confirmed to Gamespot that the new 3DS has been discontinued in the region. According to Gamespot, Nintendo did not comment on whether the new 3DS production had ceased production in the US but the device had never formally launched in America. It only made its way to the USA by way of limited edition bundles (or bundurus as they known here at Gameondaily).

This perhaps suggests that the model is being phased out in order to make way for the New 2DS, New 2DS XL, and new 3DS XL. Stay tuned to find out more.

  1. I would agree with your closing comment. It can’t be financially viable to have so many different SKUs in production. The interesting point for me is if they will stop the “3D” and just go with 2D consoles as after all these years, I don’t think their 3D has really added anything to the format.

I also find their naming convention for the format to be confusing. You buy “3DS” titles for the 2DS family, which will be increasingly strange should they kill of the 3DS family.
