*sigh* And I had JUST preordered the new Super Smash Bros 3DS XL Bundle.
Nintendo have announced via their latest Nintendo Direct presentation that a new and improved model of their handheld console will be released in the UK some time next year.
The “New 3DS” and “New 3DS XL” will feature longer battery life, improved 3D screen technology, a built-in NFC reader for use with the new Amiibo figurine range, additional shoulder buttons, and an added C-stick for dual stick controls.
The CPU is also faster, so downloads will be improved, and games will run smoother. The internet browser will support HTML5. Also, the New 3DS will have removable face plates so you can customize its look.
Due for release in Japan in October, the New 3DS will also be able to run a newly announced port of acclaimed Wii RPG Xenoblade Chronicles, which will NOT be playable on older models of the handheld. This news comes comes out just as protagonist Shulk has officially been unveiled as a playable guest character in Smash Bros.
Finally, Nintendo announced that new customizable themes will be available to download in October for all existing 3DS models, including a Mario and Zelda themed interface. Finallyier, the Shulk trailer can be watched below.
What do you guys reckon? Personally, I find it very annoying that Nintendo would release yet another revised version of the 3DS, especially this late in the game. And now that Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to the new console, it means I won’t be able to play it. Presumably other games will be released that will be exclusive to the New 3DS. This will undoubtedly confuse many casual customers. I dunno, maybe I’m just grumpy. Where’s the falafel?!
